Painting the Balrog – Part 3
So after the white was applied and spread evenly, I started adding in the colour.
The flaming mane was done by applying a yellow base, and then while wet adding Fiery Orange. This was painted from top to bottom, so it mixed with the still wet yellow. This gave a nice gradient effect. I then added some touches of red to the top of the mane.
Later, I may add some white to the base of the mane, to give it a more intense look.
The body of the Balrog was painted in yellow, and then painted over with a watered down red. Not sure if I achieved the molted lava look. Using red ink rather then watered down Blood Red may have made it look more like lava.
I then started applying Chaos Black over the top of the fiery colours, using a very small brush for the tiles. The legs I used a drybrushing method and then tidied up where necessary.
Not sure if I’m happy with the one leg I’ve done, it looks like a patch rather then cracked skin. I think I need to fill in some of it with black, make it less structured.
